In the kitchen

Thai chili, also known as bird's eye chili, is a small but potent chili used in Thai and Southeast Asian cuisines. It adds significant heat and flavor to dishes like curries, salads, and dipping sauces. The heat level is high, so it is used sparingly.

What's different

  • Small (1–3 in / 2–7 cm), thin, very hot — Capsicum frutescens / annuum.
  • Used fresh in Thai curries, stir-fries, and som tum; dried becomes prik haeng.
